The LK-MCDB800 series guided wave radar level gauge is suitable for measuring the levels of both liquid and solid media. Additionally, it can detect the interface between two liquid media. Even under high pressure or extreme temperatures, it can accurately and reliably measure the level of liquid media. These gauges are suitable for both conventional and corrosive media, as well as applications with strict hygiene requirements. Even in the presence of dust and noise, the gauge can reliably measure both light and heavy bulk solids, without being affected by adherents or condensed water.
Measuring principle
The high-frequency radar pulse is coupled to a cable (for solids) or a rod (for liquids) and conducted along the probe. The pulse is reflected by the surface of the medium. Based on the required travel time of the radar pulse and the input container height, the measuring instrument can calculate the material level.
Advantage
The LK-MCDB800 series instruments are unaffected by noise, pressure, or temperature fluctuations during measurement, and are also impervious to changes in density, foaming, steam, or dust. Attachments on the probe or container wall do not affect the measurement either. This simplifies the design and planning of the equipment. The guided operation instructions make commissioning not only simple and time-saving but also reliable.

3.1 Basic instructions on the use of instruments
Prevent moisture from entering your instrument by taking the following measures:
▶ Please use the recommended cable (see "Connecting to the power supply unit")
▶ Tighten the cable threaded joint
▶ Rotate the housing in such a way that the cable threaded joint points downwards
▶ Guide the connecting cable downwards before the cable threaded joint
This applies firstly to:
▶ When installing the instrument outdoors
▶ Installed indoors where there is moisture (such as from cleaning processes)
▶ Installed on a cooled or heated container
3.2 Installation tips
When installing the LK-MCDB800 series guided wave radar, it should be noted that the spacing between the radar and the contents inside the container or the container wall should be at least 300 mm (12 in), except for installations inside bypass pipes. For non-metallic containers, the spacing between the radar and the container wall should be at least 500 mm (19.7 in).
During instrument operation, the measuring electrode must not come into contact with the devices inside the container or the container wall. If necessary, the end of the electrode can be fixed.
For containers with a conical bottom, it is advantageous to install the sensor in the center of the container, as this allows for almost continuous measurement down to the bottom. Note that it may not be possible to measure all the way to the tip of the measuring probe. For precise minimum distance values (lower dead zone length), refer to the separate "Technical Parameters".
The measurement principle of guided microwaves in plastic/glass containers requires a metal surface at the process connection. Therefore, please use instrument types with flanges (starting from DN 50) in plastic containers, or place a metal plate (ø > 200 mm/8 in) under the process connection when screwing in.
Note that the plate should make direct contact with the process connector.
When installing rod-type or rope-type measuring probes in environments without metal container walls, but only with plastic containers, etc., the measured values can be affected by strong electromagnetic fields (interference emission according to EN 6132: Class A). In such cases, please use coaxial measuring probes.
If possible, please avoid using container pipe connectors. Try to install the sensor flush with the container lid. If this is not possible, please use a short pipe connector with a smaller diameter.
Those nozzles with higher or larger diameters can generally be used. However, they may increase the distance between the upper blocks, so please check if this is meaningful for your measurements.
In such cases, please always suppress interference signals after installation. For additional information, refer to "Debugging Steps".
When welding the pipe joint, ensure that the end face of the pipe joint is flush with the container lid.
